Video generation models offer customization options for the aspect ratios and resolutions of your generative videos, enabling you to tailor your content for any screen format or project. 

Customizing aspect ratio

• Gen-3 Alpha Turbo:
  • On the Web App: Click the Settings button on your prompting video to toggle between horizontal (1280x768) or vertical (768x1280) aspect ratio.
  • On the Mobile App: Vertical output is not currently supported on the Mobile App, but is coming soon.
• Gen-3 Alpha: Aspect ratio is not yet customizable in Gen-3 Alpha.
• Gen-2: Depending on your prompting mode, the process varies:
  • Text to Video: Click the aspect ratio button located in the top right of the prompting window. You can choose between 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, and 21:9 aspect ratios.
  • Image to Video and Image + Text to Video: The aspect ratio of your input image determines the final aspect ratio of your generation.

Please note you can also generate new aspect ratios in Gen-3 by using Expand Video.

Customizing resolution

For Gen-3 Alpha and Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, resolution is fixed at 720p (1280x768 or 768x1280). More size options will be offered in the future.

The resolution of your generative videos Gen-2 can also be set by toggling between HD and SD under advanced settings.

• Standard Definition (SD) in 16:9 generations will result in a resolution of 1408 × 768px.
• High Definition (HD) in 16:9 generations will result in a resolution of 2816 × 1536px.

Videos generated in 720p can be upscaled to 4k once the output is complete by clicking on Actions > Upscale to 4k in a Generative Session.

Currently, Runway does not offer numerically customizable pixel sizes beyond the Upscale setting.
