Introduction
Gen:48 is a short film competition where participants have 48 hours to ideate and execute a 1-4 minute film. This special Aleph Edition will take place from 9AM on August 23rd until 9AM, August 25th (ET).

Do we have to use Aleph in our final film?
Yes.

Can I incorporate multiple selections from the same category?
Yes, but you must still include at least one selection from each category.
Will I receive an upgraded plan for Gen:48?
Participants will receive complimentary temporary unlimited plans in addition to 200k credits.
How many credits will I have for Gen:48?
Participants will each receive 200k credits and a complimentary temporary unlimited plan.
Is Gen-4 and Aleph included with my temporary unlimited plan?
Yes.
When is the submission deadline?
Films must be submitted before 9am ET 8/25. You can submit via a Runway link or YouTube link.
Where is the brief?
The brief will be posted at runwayml.com/gen48 on August 23rd at 9am ET.
Can we use real life photos as input?
Yes, as long as you own the rights to your image.
Can I use new or existing real life videos as input?
Yes, as long as you own the rights.
Is there a place where I can get live support during the event?

Is there anywhere that I can review previous winning films for inspiration?
Yes, you can watch all of the past winning films at runwayml.com/gen48.

Am I allowed to share my project publicly once it’s finished?
Of course, you can share your work on socials, in Discord, or in our community subreddit.

Yes, please take a moment to review the links provided in the #📚getting-started channel for several resources on how to best utilize our tools.
What happens to my leftover credits after the competition?
Competition credits and temporary subscriptions only last for the duration of Gen:48. Your account will be returned to its original subscription plan and credit amount after the event.
Do I have to use Runway tools to edit my project?
Participants are welcome to use Runway’s editing tools, but are not restricted to them.
Do I have to generate input images using Runway for Image to Video?
All generative video (which must comprise at least 75% of your final film) must be created using Runway tools.
You are free to generate input images within your preferred workflow using your preferred tools.
You are also free to post-produce your generated videos with whatever tools you are familiar with (upscaling, grading, editing, compositing, etc.).
Can I use a celebrity or any other real life person's likeness in my project?
You cannot use someone else’s likeness if you do not have permission.
Can we use any aspect ratio?
Yes, you’re free to use whatever aspect ratio you’d like, however we recommend 16x9.
Can I use live action footage in my final video?
Yes, but 75% of the video must be footage generated with Runway. Live action shots that have been altered with Aleph do count as generated footage, as long as the use of Aleph is clear and obvious in your film. You must also own the rights to the original input video used for Video to Video.
How do I submit my film with a Runway Link?
Upload your film to Runway in your assets folder, double click your film, and generate a shareable link. That link will be what you paste in the submission form at runwayml.com/gen48 if you choose to submit via a Runway link.
If I submit my film with a YouTube or Vimeo link, does it have to be public or can it be unlisted?
Either. If your film is password protected, you must provide the password in your submission.
Can multiple participants work as a team?
Yes, you may team up with other participants. Unlike previous Gen:48 editions, credits will not be split among team members. Each team member must register separately to receive credits.
How should I work with my team during the event?
Team members may use whatever communication methods they feel most comfortable with to produce their project during the event.
What are the official rules and terms for Gen:48?

What if I miss the submission deadline by just a few minutes?
No exemptions will be made for late submissions. Please allow yourself enough time to upload and officially submit your work before 9am ET on 8/25. You can submit via a Runway link, YouTube link, or Vimeo link.
When is the registration deadline to be eligible for the event?
You must be registered by 8/22 at 12pm ET in order to be eligible for the event. Please review the event terms for a full breakdown.
Why is my input getting content moderated?
Runway’s content moderation system automatically scans your inputs and the resulting outputs for anything that is not allowed under our Usage Policy. Please review our policy to help prevent further moderation.
How can I get free Epidemic Sound access for the competition?

Do I have to use Epidemic Sound for sound design in my project?
Users do not have to use Epidemic Sound. You may use whichever service you prefer to create sound design for your project.
