Runway offers a 25% discount (previously 20%) on subscription plans for verified students and educators. This discount is designed to support learning and teaching in creative fields by making Runway's tools more accessible to academic communities.
Verification is processed through our third-party partner, SheerID, who specializes in secure identity verification for academic institutions worldwide.
Confirming your eligibility
To qualify for a student or educator discount, you must meet the following criteria:
Students: Currently enrolled in any accredited college or graduate program. High school students and younger are not eligible at this time.
Educators: Currently employed as faculty or staff at any accredited college or graduate institution.
Geographic availability: Discount applications are currently accepted from anywhere except China.
Account type: You must apply using a personal Runway account. Discount applications cannot be submitted through workspace accounts.
Applying for the discount
The application process is quick and straightforward, completed entirely through SheerID's secure verification portal. You'll need to provide basic information about your academic institution and current status.
- Log into your personal Runway account
- Navigate to the Plans and Billing page
- Click the "I'm a student" or "I'm an educator" button
- You'll be redirected to SheerID's verification portal
- Complete the verification form with your academic information
- Submit your application
Most verifications are processed instantly. In some cases, SheerID may request additional documentation to confirm your status. This will be handled directly through email from SheerID, not from Runway.
Understanding your discount
Once approved, you'll receive:
- 25% discount automatically applied to all future billing cycles of your active subscription
- 25% discount applied when purchasing any new plan
- Email confirmation from both Runway and SheerID confirming your approval
Important notes:
- The discount applies to subscription fees only, not to credit purchases
- The discount is applied automatically upon acceptance—no additional steps required
- Each verification is valid for one year from the approval date. After your verification expires, you'll need to reapply to continue receiving the discount.
FAQs
What happens if my verification is rejected?
You'll receive an email notification from both SheerID and Runway explaining the rejection. You may reapply via the same process if you wish to try again.
Can I apply for both student and educator discounts?
You can only hold one verification type at a time. Choose the category that best represents your current academic status.
Do I need to reapply?
Yes, verifications expire. Educators need to reapply once every two years, and students need to reapply annually. You'll always need to reapply to maintain your discount, whether you were previously approved or rejected.
What if I'm enrolling in a new program or starting a new teaching position?
You can apply for verification at any time. Make sure you have documentation from your institution confirming your enrollment or employment status, as SheerID may request this.
I'm located in China — can I apply?
We cannot currently accept student or educator discount applications from China. If you have questions about eligibility, contact Runway support.
