Studio is where you trim and arrange clips into a finished video, called a Cut. Add footage to the timeline, arrange it in any order, trim what you don't need, and export when you're done. This guide covers how to access and make your first timeline edit in Studio.
Getting Started
To get started editing together your video, create a Cut:
- Select Studio from the left-hand navigation bar.
- Click New Cut.
- Give your Cut a name, then either upload footage to get started or open an empty timeline.
If you select multiple video files during upload, all of them are added to your Assets panel automatically.
To rename a Cut at any time, click the project name at the top of the editor and type a new name.
Adding clips to the timeline
Once Studio is open, add your clips to the timeline:
- Drag and drop a clip from the right-hand Assets panel directly onto the timeline.
- Click the + icon to browse and select from your uploaded assets.
- Double-click a clip in the Assets panel to place it at the start of the timeline (0:00).
Note: Images are not currently supported in Studio.
Tip: For best performance, avoid uploading very large or long video files.
Editing your clips
Once you add a clip, you can edit it by arranging and trimming:
- Split a clip: Position the playhead where you want to split, then click Split in the toolbar or press Cmd+B (Mac) / Ctrl+B (Windows). Clips can be trimmed down to a minimum of approximately 0.1 seconds.
- Trim a clip: Drag the left or right edge of any clip to shorten it. Release to confirm.
- Move a clip: Click and drag a clip to reposition it on the timeline. You can move clips between tracks by dragging them up or down, or slide them between adjacent clips on the same track.
- Delete a clip: Select a clip and press Backspace to remove it.
Select multiple clips
- Cmd+Click (Mac) / Ctrl+Click (Windows) to select clips individually.
- Cmd+A (Mac) / Ctrl+A (Windows) to select everything on the timeline.
- Opt+Drag (Mac) / Alt+Drag (Windows) to select a range within a single track.
- Shift+Drag to select a range across all tracks.
- Press Esc to deselect.
Tip: Working with footage that has multiple scenes? Right-click a clip and select Detect Shots — Studio will analyze the clip and automatically split it at any detected scene change, saving you the manual work.
Exporting your Cut
When your Cut is ready, click Export in the top-right corner to download your finished video.
