You can trim and arrange clips into a finished video directly in the Final Cut tab of the Agent panel. You can manually arrange and trim your footage yourself, or work with Agent in chat to assemble and edit clips for you. Add footage to the timeline, arrange it in any order, trim what you don't need, and export when you're done. 

This guide covers how to access Final Cut and make your first timeline edit.

Getting Started

To get started editing your video, open the Final Cut timeline from Agent:

1. Click Agent in the left sidebar, or go to app.runwayml.com/agent
2. Click the New timeline card below the message box. This opens an empty timeline with Agent chat alongside it, so you can build your Cut manually, ask Agent to help, or both.
3. If you'd like to name the video:
   1. Click the name in the top left corner of the screen
   2. Select the ... next to the Agent session and choose Rename.
   3. Type the name and click Rename once more.

Adding clips to the timeline

There are a few ways to add clips once you're in Final Cut:

• Drag and drop a video file directly onto the timeline.
• Click the + below the track header to add a new track and file.
• Click the + at the end of an existing track to add a new file to that track.

You can also upload your clips as references in the chat and ask Agent to assemble and arrange them into a timeline for you — useful if you'd rather describe the video you want than build it manually.

Note: Images are not currently supported in the timeline.

Tip: For best performance, avoid uploading very large or long video files.

Editing your clips

Once you add a clip, you can edit it by arranging and trimming:

• Split a clip: Position the playhead where you want to split, then click Split in the toolbar or press Cmd+B (Mac) / Ctrl+B (Windows). Clips can be trimmed down to a minimum of approximately 0.1 seconds.
• Trim a clip: Drag the left or right edge of any clip to shorten it. Release to confirm.
• Split audio: Right-click any video clip and select Split audio. This moves the audio to its own track so you can adjust it independently.
• Move a clip: Click and drag a clip to reposition it on the timeline. You can move clips between tracks by dragging them up or down, or slide them between adjacent clips on the same track.
• Delete a clip: Select a clip and press Backspace to remove it.

Tip: Working with footage that has multiple scenes? Right-click a clip and select Detect Shots — Studio will analyze the clip and automatically split it at any detected scene change, saving you the manual work.

Exporting your Cut

When your cut is ready, click Download in the top-right corner of the timeline to export your finished video.
