Minimax H3 (sometimes also called Hailuo 3.0) is a third-party video generation model from MiniMax, available on Runway. It excels at multi-reference workflows — for example, you can replace a character in a reference video with a subject from an image while preserving the original camera motion, or pace a generation to match an audio reference.
This article covers how to access Minimax H3 in Tools mode, prompt and input best practices, available settings, and what to expect from your generations.

Step 1 – Selecting Minimax H3
The model picker lives at the bottom of the generation panel. Minimax H3 is available in Tools and Workflows on paid plans.
- From the left sidebar, click Tools.
- Select the Video tab at the top of the generation panel.
- Click the model dropdown at the bottom of the panel and type in the search bar Minimax H3.
Step 2 – Writing the prompt
Your prompt will vary depending on your inputs and what you're trying to accomplish. In any creation mode or model, we recommend using positive, unambiguous, and outcome-focused language. Minimax H3 handles complex, multi-part prompts well, so you can include multiple details — subject, action, setting, camera movement, and style — in a single prompt.
Using the reference inputs
Write your prompt as if you're describing the scene you want to appear, as well as how each input should be used.
- Keyframes — add a first frame, or both a first and last frame, to guide the start and end of your generation; your output's aspect ratio will automatically match your keyframe image
- Image references — add up to 9 images to guide the subject, style, or composition, especially useful for bringing a specific character or object into your generation
- Video references — add up to 3 videos to guide motion, camera movement, or scene structure; combine with image references to replace a character in the reference video while preserving the original camera motion
- Audio references — add up to 3 audio files to influence the pacing and rhythm of your generation
Note: Keyframes cannot be combined with reference inputs.
Tip: Minimax H3 shines when multiple reference types work together. Try pairing an image reference for your subject, a video reference for camera motion, and an audio reference for pacing in a single generation.
Step 3 – Generating with Minimax H3
Before generating, review your settings:
- Prompt — describe the video you want to generate, including how each reference should be used
- Inputs — confirm your keyframes or references meet the requirements in the Spec Information table, and remember that keyframes and references cannot be combined
- Aspect ratio — choose from 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, or 21:9; when using keyframes, the aspect ratio is set automatically to match your keyframe image
- Duration — set between 5 and 15 seconds; the default is 5 seconds
Credit cost depends on your video's duration, output resolution and references:
- 2K: 15 credits per second
- 768p: 10 credits per second
References add to the total:
- Image: 2 credits each
- Video: 13 credits per second
- Audio: free
Note: Some combinations of inputs are not allowed. If a selection is unavailable, adjust your inputs or resolution and try again.
Once your prompt and settings are ready, select Generate.
Next steps
Once you've generated with Minimax H3, keep working with your output:
- Edit Studio — Edit your generation without starting over: swap subjects, adjust lighting, or restyle the shot with Aleph 2.0 while keeping the motion you liked.
- Upscale Video — Bring your 2K output up to 4K for final delivery.
