Creating from PDFs with Runway Agent

Runway Agent can read PDFs you upload and use their content directly in your generations. Instead of copying and pasting text out of a document, upload the file and Agent pulls the relevant tone, references and details into its plan. Both text-based and scanned PDFs are supported, up to 20MB per file.

Uploading a PDF

  1. Navigate to Agent and open a new or existing session.
  2. Select the + in the bottom left forthe prompt box, or drag a PDF from your computer into the prompt box.
  3. Write a prompt describing what you want Agent to do with the document.
  4. Press Enter or Return to begin collaborating with Agent.

What agent can do with a PDF

Anything Agent generates in the session — images, video, audio or a full multi-shot project — can draw on the uploaded document's content. A few examples:

  • Generate from a brief or script — Agent pulls the tone, references and specs from your document into the images and video it creates, so a 20-page brief becomes the creative direction without retyping any of it
  • Build on results and research — upload campaign results or research and ask Agent to create new content informed by what's in it, like a stronger set of ads based on what performed
  • Recreate or localize a deck — upload a PDF deck and Agent can regenerate its slides in another language or style. You can also ask for a slide-by-slide translation directly in chat

FAQ

What file types can I upload to Agent?

Only PDF files are currently supported as document uploads. To use a Word document, .txt file or Google Doc, export or save it as a PDF first, then upload it.

How large can my PDF be?

PDFs must be 20MB or smaller.

Can Agent use the images inside my PDF?

Agent reads a PDF's content but can't extract images from the file to use as generation assets. If you want Agent to work from specific imagery in a brief or style guide, upload those images separately alongside the PDF.
