When generating with Gen-4.5 in Tool Mode or editing with Aleph 2.0 in Edit Studio, you can choose the output format of your video. These export formats give you a file that drops directly into other video editing tools without transcoding or quality loss from compression.
Supported Output Formats
- MP4 — the default format, best for sharing and playback

.movfile with PCM audio, made for editorial and broadcast pipelines. Choose from six profiles: 422 Proxy, 422 LT, 422, 422 HQ, 4444 and 4444 XQ -
PNG Sequence — a
.zipcontaining every frame as an individual PNG, made for VFX and compositing work
Output formats are available for Gen-4.5 generations in Tool Mode and Aleph 2.0 edits in Edit Studio.
Choosing an Output Format
Gen-4.5 in Tool Mode
- Open Tool Mode with Video selected, then choose Gen-4.5 from the model selector
- Select the Output Format setting and choose MP4, ProRes or PNG Sequence
- If you choose ProRes, select a profile
- Review the updated credit cost shown before generating, then select Generate
Aleph 2.0 in Edit Studio
- Open Edit Studio from the Apps section and set up your edit as usual
- Select the Output Format setting and choose MP4, ProRes or PNG Sequence
- Review the updated credit cost, then select Generate video
Edits applied to a specific portion of your video using the timeline's range handles always return an MP4.

Which plans include ProRes and PNG sequence outputs?
ProRes and PNG Sequence outputs are currently available on Max, Unlimited (Legacy) and Enterprise plans. Users on other plans can upgrade from account settings.
Can I use ProRes or PNG sequence output in Workflows or with Runway Agent?
Output format selection is currently available in Tool Mode and Edit Studio only. Workflows and Agent generations are delivered as MP4.
Why did my Edit Studio generation return an MP4?
Edits applied to a specific range of your video using the timeline's range handles are always delivered as MP4. ProRes and PNG Sequence outputs are supported for edits applied to the full video.
Does ProRes output include audio?
ProRes outputs include uncompressed PCM audio in the .mov
file, ready for editorial timelines.
Can I convert an existing generation to ProRes or a PNG sequence?
The output format is chosen at generation time and can't be changed after a video is generated. To get a different format, run the generation again with the format you need selected.
