Setting up Runway Ads takes a few minutes: tell Runway about your business, connect the ad accounts you want it to read from and choose the goal your dashboard should follow. You can change any of it later from Settings, and this article covers both the first-time setup and how to adjust it afterwards.
Who can set up Runway Ads
Setup is done by a workspace Admin. Billing Admins can also connect ad accounts. Editors and Viewers get a shorter first-run flow that does not include workspace setup.
On the Team plan, the workspace owner alone handles setup. You will also need admin access on the ad account itself, on the platform, to connect it.
Completing first-time setup
The first time an Admin opens Runway Ads, Runway walks through setup in a few short steps.
- Open app.runwayml.com/ads, or select the product picker in the top left of Runway and choose Runway Ads
- On the welcome screen, select the button to begin
- Enter your business website. Runway fills this in from your email domain, so change it if that is not your site, then select Next →
- Connect your ad accounts. Select Connect next to each platform you use and sign in when the platform asks. You can select Skip and connect accounts later from Settings
- Choose your advertising goal: Subscriptions, Purchases, Leads, App installs or Brand awareness. Your goal decides which metrics the dashboard shows
- Under Rank ads on, choose the result you care about most for that goal, then select Start →
You can change your website, goal and result settings at any time from Settings.
Connecting an ad account after setup
If you skipped this step, or want to add another platform, connect accounts from Settings.
- In Runway Ads, select Settings
- On the Connected accounts tab, find the platform you want to add and select Connect
- Sign in to the platform and allow Runway to read your ad accounts
- Turn on the ad accounts you want Runway Ads to use. Turning an account on starts the first sync of its campaigns and results
Runway Ads currently connects to Meta, TikTok and Google Ads. Runway reads your campaign data and creative; it does not change anything in your ad accounts.
Managing a connected account
Each connected platform shows its status, who connected it and when, and a few actions.
- Refresh — pull the latest campaigns and results from the platform
- Reconnect — sign in again if the connection has expired or lost access
- Disconnect — remove the connection. Runway asks you to confirm first
Use the switch next to an individual ad account to turn it on or off without disconnecting the platform. Only accounts that are turned on are synced and shown on the dashboard.
Changing your goal and business info
Your goal and business details shape what the dashboard shows and how Agent talks about your results.
- In Runway Ads, select Settings, then the Business info tab
- Select Edit
- Update your website, goal or cost target, then save
On the same tab you can choose which of your platforms' conversion events count as a result. This matters if you optimize on a custom event, because it keeps the results Runway Ads reports in line with what you see in your ad platform.
Turning Runway Ads on or off for your organization
In Enterprise organizations, Runway Ads is on in every workspace by default. Organization Admins can turn it off for the organization or for individual workspaces.
- Open Organization Settings, then Settings
- Find Runway Ads
- Use the organization switch to control Runway Ads for the whole organization, and the switches below it to control individual workspaces
Turning Runway Ads off pauses the workspace's ad accounts and hides the dashboard. Nothing is deleted, and turning it back on picks up where it left off.
Everyone in a workspace with Runway Ads on can see that workspace's ad spend and results. If only some people should see that, keep Runway Ads on in a dedicated marketing workspace and off everywhere else. See Organization spaces for Enterprise.
FAQ
Can I connect more than one ad account from the same platform?
Yes. After you connect a platform, each ad account you have access to appears with its own switch, so you can turn on only the ones you want Runway Ads to use.
Why don't I see Meta as an option?
Meta is available to connect. If you set up Runway Ads before Meta was added, open Settings, then Connected accounts, and you will find it there.
Why can't I set a cost target?
Cost targets use the currency of your connected ad account. Connect at least one ad account first, then set the target in Business info.
Can I set a different goal for each ad account?
Not yet. Each workspace has one goal, which applies to every connected ad account. Separate goals per ad account, and separate brands inside one workspace, are not available at the moment.
Can I run through setup again?
Setup runs once per person per workspace. Everything you set during setup can be changed afterwards from Settings.
