Credit caps let you control how much of your organization's credit pool each workspace can spend. Every workspace has a cap setting with two options:
- A hard cap lets you set a maximum credit spend for a workspace. When it's reached, members won't be able to generate until you add credits to the workspace or remove the cap.
- No cap lets the workspace keep generating past its allocated credits, drawing from your organization's shared credit pool.
Organization and workspace admins can change a workspace's cap at any time, giving some teams a fixed budget while others generate without a ceiling.
This article covers changing a cap and what happens when a workspace uses all of its credits. To learn how your organization's shared credit pool and allocations work, see Understanding Your Organization's Credits.
Changing a Workspace's Credit Cap
- Navigate to your Organization settings
- Open the Workspaces tab
- Locate the workspace and set its cap using the Hard cap toggle
Cap changes take effect immediately.
Before You Change a Cap
- New workspaces start on a hard cap with no credits. The cap setting unlocks once you transfer credits into the workspace.
- Switching from no cap to a hard cap applies right away. If the workspace has already spent past its allocated credits, you'll need to transfer in enough credits to cover its spend before you can apply the hard cap.
When a Workspace Uses All of Its Credits
On a hard cap, members won't be able to generate. They'll see that the workspace is out of credits and be directed to their workspace admin. To get the team generating again, you can transfer credits in from another workspace or switch the workspace to no cap.
On no cap, members keep generating and the workspace continues drawing from your organization's credit pool. You'll see a one-time notice when the workspace passes its allocated credits, and you can set up email alerts through credit notifications.
FAQ
I don't see a cap setting for my workspaces. Where is it?
First, check your role — only organization and workspace admins can view and change cap settings.
If your role is correct and you still don't see the setting, credit caps may not be included in your current Enterprise plan. Reach out to your designated account team to learn more.
Why is the cap setting disabled on my workspace?
New workspaces start with no credits. The cap setting unlocks once you transfer credits into the workspace.
Why can't I switch this workspace to a hard cap?
A hard cap can't be set lower than what the workspace has already spent. Transfer in enough credits to cover its current spend, then apply the hard cap.
Who can change a workspace's cap?
Organization and workspace admins. Editors, Viewers and Billing Admins can't change cap settings.
Does a no-cap workspace stop when the organization's credits run out?
Members can keep generating. Usage beyond your organization's purchased credits is billed by Runway. See Understanding Your Organization's Credits for details.
