Eligibility & Requirements

How do I apply as a student for the discount?

How do I apply as an educator to purchase Runway for my class?

What qualifies as an educational institution?

Accredited universities, colleges, K-12 schools, vocational schools and other formally recognized educational organizations typically qualify. Both public and private institutions are generally eligible.

Do I need a specific type of email address?

Please use your school-issued email address. If you do not have a school-issued email address, you will need to provide proof that you are a student or professor at a university (a letter of enrollment or a photo ID)

Can homeschool educators apply?

Requirements vary by program. Homeschool educators may need to provide documentation of their educational activities, curriculum or registration with local educational authorities where applicable.

Are international schools eligible?

Yes, international schools are eligible.

How long does it take to verify educational status for individual discounts?

Verification typically takes a few days to complete.

 

Pricing & Discounts

What are the exact discount percentages?

Students and professors seeking individual discounts receive 20% off. If a professor is seeking a discount for an entire class, each student can get 25% off when purchasing in bulk.

How much does each plan type cost with the educational discount?

Verified Educational users receive 20% off the stated prices listed at https://runwayml.com/pricing.

Can I choose between monthly and annual billing?

Yes, the discount is eligible for both monthly and annual subscriptions.

Does the discount apply to credits?

No, the discount only applies to paid subscription plans, not to credits.

Are free trials available for educational users?

We do not offer free trials for educational users.

 

Application Process for a Course

How long does the application process take?

Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks lead time for processing.

What information do I need to provide upfront?

To get a class set up, you must provide:

  • Class duration (in months, as billing is monthly/annual)
  • Billing preference (monthly or annual rate)
  • Desired plan type
  • Number of students/licenses needed (one license per student is required)
  • Billing address
  • Proof of tax exemption (if applicable)
  • Student list (see format requirements below)
What format should the student list be in?

The student list should be provided in Excel format. All students must already have created free Runway accounts using their educational email addresses before being added to the class.

When will I receive my invoice?

After the professor submits the student list, the Runway Education team will activate the plan and then send the invoice.

Is there a maximum class size for bulk purchases?

No, there's no limit on class size for bulk purchases. However, we recommend enterprise plans for larger groups or institutional programs.

How do classes renew for subsequent terms/semesters?

Message in your existing thread with the education team. 

 

Student Account Management

How do students create their accounts?

Students can create accounts at www.runwayml.com using their school-issued email addresses.

What if a student doesn't have an school-issued email?

Please contact education@runwayml.com for assistance with alternative verification methods.

Can I create accounts for my students?

Yes, professors can create accounts on behalf of their students if they wish.

How do students join my workspace?

Please see here for help with workspaces. Note that we do not set up workspaces for you.

Is there central administration available?

No, central administration is only available with enterprise plans.

Is SSO available?

SSO is only available on enterprise plans. Non-enterprise accounts can sign up with Google or Apple authentication.

What happens when students graduate or are no longer enrolled?

Subscriptions will end when the term is complete. Students can keep their account—assuming their email remains active—or create a new, personal account after graduation.

Can students transfer their accounts after graduation?

Yes, students can transfer their accounts to a different email after graduation.

Can professors track student usage or activity?

No, professors cannot track student usage or activity unless they have direct access to the student's account.

 

Technical & Access

What features are included in the educational plans?

Educational plans include the same features as the corresponding paid plans listed on our pricing page, discounted at the relevant rate (20% discount for individual users, 25% for bulk class purchases).

Are there any limitations on educational accounts?

Educational accounts have the same functionality as regular paid accounts. The main requirement is that students must use their school-issued email addresses and maintain their student status.

How do I manage multiple students' access?

You can manage student access through workspaces. For detailed guidance on workspace management, see here. Note that central administration features are only available with enterprise plans.

Can students work on projects outside of class time?

Yes. Runway is web-based, so students can access their accounts and work on projects from home or on different computers throughout their subscription period, subject to the plan's usage limits and terms.

Do my students own their work?

Are there data protections?

Data protections are available for enterprise plans. See here for more information.

 

Billing & Payment

What payment methods are accepted?

Credit card only. Bank transfers are only available for enterprise plans.

How do I handle tax-exempt status?

In your correspondence with the education team, be sure to send your tax exemption or VAT certificate to us and we will ensure your invoice reflects the exemption.

When are invoices sent and payments due?

Invoices are due within one month of being sent.

Can I redline the contract?

Redlining is not available for standard plans. If you or your University require redlines, please see here for more information on enterprise plans.

Can I cancel or modify my plan mid-term?

Plans cannot be canceled or modified mid-term.
