Making Changes To Your Plan
Upgrading your Plan
Upgrading your plan takes place on the Billing section of your Dashboard. See the links below for step-by-step instructions to upgrade your subscription.
| Free plan upgrades | How do I upgrade or resubscribe to a paid subscription? |
| Paid plan upgrades | How do I upgrade from a lower plan to a higher plan? |
When you upgrade an existing paid plan mid-cycle, you pay only the time-adjusted difference — not the full cost of the new plan.
Downgrading your plan
Follow the same steps as upgrading above, but select a lower-tier plan. When you downgrade mid-cycle, the price difference is applied as a credit toward your next billing cycle. You won't be charged again until that credit is used up.
Switching between monthly and annual
Follow the same steps as upgrading above, but toggle to the Monthly or Yearly tab when selecting your plan.
Details
If payment hasn't completed yet, the transaction may show as "pending" for up to 24 hours. Wait, then try again and select monthly.
If the charge already went through, follow the steps above to switch to a monthly plan and receive a balance credit for the difference.
Managing Your Invoices
You can update your payment method, add a business name to your invoices, and download past receipts from the Billing section of your Dashboard.
- Go to your billing page.
- Click Manage billing → Update information.
- Make your changes and save.
- Return to your billing page to download the updated invoices.
Adding a business name
Enter your business name in the Name or Address Line 1 field.
Downloading invoice history
There's no bulk download option. Click Download next to each invoice individually on your billing page.
Updating invoices on a Free plan
Invoice editing is only available on paid accounts. Upgrade to a paid plan first, then update your details.
iOS billing
Payments made through the Runway iOS app are managed by Apple. To update billing info or download receipts, use Apple's payment settings guide.
Understanding Your Billing Cycle
Your billing day is the date you first activated your plan. To find it:
- Log into the web app and click your profile icon.
- Select Manage your plan.
- Scroll to the Invoices section — your billing day matches the date on your last invoice.
Subscription renewal
All subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Monthly plans renew on your billing day each month. Annual plans renew one year after initiation — your credits still reset monthly, but you won't be charged again until the following year.
Monthly credits
Plan credits reset within 24 hours of your billing day. Unused credits from the previous cycle are forfeited and do not roll over.
Purchased credits
Purchased credits never expire. They stay on your account until spent and aren't affected by your billing cycle. Generations always draw from monthly plan credits first — you can't manually choose which balance to use.
Cancelling Your Plan
You can cancel your plan at any time by downgrading to a Free plan. See the links below for step-by-step instructions based on how you originally subscribed, whether directly through Runway or through the Apple App Store.

| iOS Purchases | Billing for iOS |
After cancellation, you keep access to paid features until the end of your current billing cycle. The subscription will not renew.
Note: If you only see Update subscription and Don't cancel subscription, your cancellation is already confirmed. The cancellation date is shown at the top of the Stripe confirmation page.
What happens after cancellation?
- You keep access to paid features until the end of your billing cycle.
- Your assets and projects stay on your account unless you delete your account entirely.
- On the Free plan, you can't create new projects if you already have more than three.
- Purchased credits remain on your account — but your plan level determines feature availability (e.g., generations on the Free tier include watermarks regardless of when credits were purchased).
Requesting a Refund

FAQs
Do credits roll over to the next month?
No. Monthly plan credits reset each billing cycle and don't carry over. Purchased credits never expire.
Can I subscribe for a set amount of time, like three months?
Not currently. Runway doesn't offer custom subscription durations — you'll need to cancel manually when you're ready to stop.
Can I change my plan at any time?
Yes. Upgrades are prorated; downgrades apply a credit toward your next billing cycle.
What happens to my credits if I upgrade mid-cycle?
Your credits update immediately to match your new plan's allocation, and you're charged the prorated difference.
Why can't I cancel even though I'm getting failed renewal emails?
Your renewal date likely passed before the cancellation went through. Reach out to Support for help.
I cancelled but I'm still being charged. What happened?
Make sure you completed all cancellation steps, including the final confirmation in Stripe. If your billing page only shows "Update subscription" and "Don't cancel subscription," your cancellation is already confirmed.
