Refunds to Alipay are only possible within 90 days of the original payment. This is a limit set by our payment processor, Stripe, and applies to every Alipay payment regardless of the plan or your location. If your payment is older than 90 days, we cannot return the funds to your Alipay account or to any other card, wallet or bank account, including PayPal.
If you qualify for a refund but your Alipay payment is outside the 90-day window, we add the refund amount to your Runway account as a balance credit instead. You can put that balance toward a new subscription or a credit purchase at any time.
How the 90-Day Limit Works
When you pay with Alipay through Runway, the payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe can only send a refund back through Alipay for 90 days after the charge. After that, the refund path to Alipay closes and there is no way for us to reopen it or redirect the refund to a different payment method.
What You Receive Instead
If your refund request is approved and your Alipay payment is older than 90 days, we cancel the plan and credit the refund amount to your account balance. The balance appears at checkout and is applied automatically to your next purchase.
- Subscriptions — the balance covers a new monthly or annual plan at checkout
- Credit purchases — the balance covers one-time credit purchases

FAQ
Can you refund to a different card, PayPal or bank transfer instead?
No. Refunds can only go back to the payment method used for the original charge. We are not able to send a refund to a card, PayPal account or bank account that was not used for the purchase, and we do not issue refunds by wire transfer.
Alipay told me a refund is still possible. Why can't Runway process it?
Alipay's own refund window applies to merchants who process payments directly with Alipay. Runway processes payments through Stripe, and Stripe's Alipay integration allows refunds for 90 days only. Once that window has passed, we have no way to send the refund through Alipay.
I paid with Alipay less than 90 days ago. Can I still get a refund to Alipay?
Yes, if your request meets our refund policy. Refunds to Alipay typically complete within a few minutes of being issued.
Does this apply to the Unlimited to Max transition?
Yes. If you are an annual Unlimited subscriber who paid with Alipay and you choose a refund for the remaining months of your plan instead of moving to Max, the refund is added to your account balance when your payment is more than 90 days old.
