Navigating Runway

Introduction

The Runway web app serves as your central workspace for generative media projects. Runway can be broken down into three main areas:

  1. Sessions
  2. Dashboard
  3. Assets

This article outlines the basics of navigating the Runway app.

Sessions

When you first log into Runway, you'll be in a generative Session. Sessions are where you create generations, and also serve as an organization structure within Runway. You can think of Sessions as a folder or group of generations you create at a given time.

Within a Session, you have three different generation methods in the left-hand navigation bar:

  • Tool — Granular control over the generative process.
  • App — Use-case specific generation methods.
  • Chat — Collaborative creation experience that's perfect for iterating.
  • Workflow —  Build scalable, automated, and customizable creative pipelines.

Each generative method has its own strengths in your creative process— experienced creators often switch between each methods as-needed.

As you generate, the interface organizes content chronologically on the right-hand pane, with your latest generations appearing at the bottom, and the oldest at the top. This layout allows you to continue previous projects or start new ones without navigating through multiple menus.

Hovering over or clicking the Sessions button reveals previous sessions, allow you to create new sessions, and more.

Clicking the Home icon in the bottom left corner of the navigation bar will take you to your dashboard:

Dashboard

Your dashboard is where you can broadly access different parts of Runway, such as starting a new session, viewing or managing your assets, switching workspaces, and managing your account.
